Chicks & Fire Series

Chicks & Fire is a workshop series in Asheville, NC, dedicated to empowering women around cooking and nourishing themselves and their loved ones.  It's about stoking the literal and figurative home-fires and bringing much needed reverence and appreciation back into the well-loved and nourishing foods we can prepare at home.

I'll be exploring different methods, approaches, rationale, and practical application of all kinds of dietary explorations.  Offerings will be based on seasonal changes, the interest of my participants and relevant and exciting nutritional approaches.

This is an organic forum for women to gather, learn together, nourish body and soul and get an energy boost around the task of feeding ourselves and each other.

What participants are saying:

Thank you for opening your home and your heart tonight. The entire evening was nourishing - mind, body and soul. I almost didn't come because group settings are way out of my comfort zone, but I'm so glad I did!   You are amazing and I can't wait until the next class! I walked in your door with my cup completely empty and left with it overflowing. I'm thankful you have this vision of creating a community experience around preparing food and I'm so happy to have been a part of it.

- Monica (Spartanburg, SC)

"This chicken noodle soup is blowing the clothes off me, it's SO fucking good.  I'm literally naked in my kitchen.  It blew my skirt and jewelry clear across the room.  Holy shit.  So goddam delicious."

- Luna (Asheville, NC)

"I had friendsgiving on Friday and roasted my very first turkey.  Everyone said it was the best turkey they've had and that was totally because of your amazing class!  You're amazing!"

- Emily (Durham, NC)

"Kathleen: it [Thanksgiving] was an epic and tremendously smashing success!!!  And I couldn't have done it without you and your support so THANK YOU!"

Fall: the chicken roasting class ($75)

Saturday, October 6th, 2018 from 3:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Roasting a chicken is one of the most primary cooking skills you can possess (if you are a meat eater).  Learning the basic skills of preparing a roasted chicken at home will nourish and delight you and your loved ones.

In this live cooking demo, I will explore several of my favorite methods for selecting, preparing and cooking a whole chicken.  After the demo, there will be a tear-apart chicken dinner where you can sample all of the different methods that I demonstrate.  Your choice of red or white wine is included, along with use of my very fancy linen napkins.  Following dinner we will move outdoors for a fire-gazing guided meditation and celebration of Fall's wonderfully grounding energy.

This class is all about re-claiming that bit of truth that you know still exists ... the one that states that the winter holiday season is really about family.  About creating traditions, keeping children and grown-ups in a mental and physical space that is truly nourishing.

During the winter holiday season, we can all fall into the trap of distractions, too much sugar, social obligation, over-stimulation and exhaustion ... all in the name of the season!  (As though it is our birthright to suffer).

We will intentionally burn things and we will also cook things gently.

If you're a woman who has enjoyed responsible fire play around food, or ever dreamed of it - this is the class for you.

what's up with all the future dates?

"Hey Kathleen!" you might be saying...

"I notice that all of these classes are for 2018 and 2019 ... what's up with that?"

I'm expecting my second child Summer of 2017, and am intentionally not teaching until Fall of 2018.  I want to focus on healing, bonding and being with my family postpartum and throughout that most important first year of my new baby's life.  If you're really jazzed to see me prior to 2018, register for the Southeast Wise Women Herbal Conference coming up in October of 2017, where I'm delighted to be featured as a Guest Teacher.  You can also always work with me individually through my holistic health coaching program, or be the hostess of a Broth Party!

Thanks for your love and support!
